Abner Shimony was an American physicist and philosopher of science who co-authored the 1969 CHSH inequality, the experimentally testable form of Bell's theorem that made laboratory tests of quantum entanglement possible. He held joint appointments in physics and philosophy at Boston University and was a leading thinker on the foundations of quantum mechanics. He was Jewish; his Hebrew name was Eliezer and he studied Talmud alongside physics.
