Michael Freedman is recognized among Jewish contributors to Science & Medicine — Solved the 4-dimensional Poincare conjecture (Fields Medal)
Freedman, an American mathematician of Jewish descent, proved the Poincare conjecture in four dimensions, one of the deepest results in topology, using ingenious geometric constructions to classify four-dimensional manifolds. For this he received the Fields Medal in 1986. He later led Microsoft's Station Q, applying topology to quantum computing.
