Biography

Michael Aizenman is recognized among Jewish contributors to Science & Medicine — Mathematical physics; rigorous statistical mechanics

How & why

Aizenman is an American-Israeli mathematical physicist at Princeton whose rigorous work in statistical mechanics and probability proved landmark results on phase transitions, the triviality of certain quantum field theories in high dimensions, the sharpness of the percolation transition and localization for random Schrödinger operators. He received the Heineman Prize and the Poincaré Prize. He is a Jewish American-Israeli, born in the Soviet Union and educated at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem.
