José Enrique Moyal was a mathematical physicist who developed the phase-space formulation of quantum mechanics and the 'Moyal bracket', unifying ideas of Weyl, Wigner, von Neumann and Groenewold after a famous exchange with Paul Dirac. He also worked in statistical physics and stochastic processes, and taught in Australia at ANU and Macquarie. He was Jewish.
