Leonard Adleman is recognized among Jewish contributors to Technology & Engineering — Co-invented RSA public-key cryptography and pioneered DNA computing.
Adleman, an American computer scientist of Jewish background, is the 'A' in RSA: in 1977 with Ron Rivest and Adi Shamir he co-invented the RSA public-key cryptosystem that secures much of modern e-commerce. He later founded the field of DNA computing by solving a mathematical problem using strands of DNA. He shared the 2002 Turing Award for the RSA work.
