Karl Rubin is an American number theorist at UC Irvine known for deep results on elliptic curves, Iwasawa theory and the Birch and Swinnerton-Dyer conjecture, including early proofs of finiteness of Tate-Shafarevich groups. He is the son of the astronomer Vera Rubin, who came from a Jewish immigrant family, and his Jewish maternal ancestry is documented.
