Julius Donath was an Austrian physician and internist who, with Karl Landsteiner in 1904, described the Donath–Landsteiner test for paroxysmal cold haemoglobinuria, identifying one of the first recognised human autoimmune diseases. His work was foundational to the understanding of cold-antibody blood disorders. He was Jewish and was expelled from his academic position in Vienna after the Nazi annexation of Austria in 1938.
