Aschheim was a German gynecologist who, with Bernhard Zondek, developed the Aschheim-Zondek test in 1928, the first reliable biological pregnancy test, based on detecting a hormone in urine. Born into a Jewish family in Berlin, he fled Nazi Germany for France; he was Jewish.
