Otto Robert Frisch was an Austrian-British physicist who, with his aunt Lise Meitner, first explained and named nuclear fission (1939), and who with Rudolf Peierls wrote the 1940 Frisch–Peierls memorandum showing an atomic bomb was feasible, a key trigger for the Allied programme. He fled Nazi persecution as a Jew and worked on the Manhattan Project. He was Jewish.
