Wilf was an American mathematician who advanced combinatorics and analysis, co-developing with Doron Zeilberger the WZ method that mechanically proves hypergeometric identities, for which they won the Steele Prize. His book generatingfunctionology is widely used. He was born into a Jewish family in Philadelphia.
