Georg Simmel is recognized among Jewish contributors to Philosophy & Social Sciences — German sociologist and philosopher
Simmel was a founding figure of modern sociology and a philosopher, whose essays on the metropolis, money, fashion and social forms established the study of interaction and the 'forms of sociation'. His 'The Philosophy of Money' (1900) is a classic analysis of modern culture. He was born in Berlin to a family of Jewish origin that had converted to Christianity; antisemitism nonetheless delayed his academic advancement.
