Federigo Enriques was an Italian mathematician, a central figure of the Italian school of algebraic geometry, celebrated for the birational classification of algebraic surfaces (the Enriques classification). He also wrote widely on the philosophy and history of science. He was Jewish, and was barred from teaching under the 1938 Fascist racial laws.
