Beniamino Segre is recognized among Jewish contributors to Science & Medicine — Algebraic geometry and combinatorial geometry
Segre was a leading figure of the Italian school of algebraic geometry who also helped found finite (Galois) geometry, proving landmark results on ovals in projective planes. Dismissed under Italy's 1938 racial laws for being Jewish, he taught in Britain during the war and returned to a distinguished career in Rome. He was born into a Jewish family in Turin.
