Origins and early life
Emmanuelle Bach was born in Paris on 31 May 1968 under the name Emmanuelle Anouk El Kabbach.
Work and career
Her father is the journalist Jean-Pierre Elkabbach, born into an Algerian Jewish family at Oran and a Jew by his own declaration; her mother is Holda Trenkle, known as Holda Fonteyn, formerly of the health desk at TF1. The documented route by which she appears in this directory is her father's line, stated plainly and not inferred from the name. She read at Sciences Po before leaving for drama school, and began acting in the early 1990s.
French television audiences know her from long-running series: PJ, the police procedural, from 1999 to 2007; Clem from 2013 to 2015; Les Hommes de l'ombre from 2014 to 2016; and above all Un village français, broadcast from 2009 to 2017, the drama that followed one French town through the whole of the German occupation and which did more than any documentary of its decade to put the ordinary compromises of those years before a mass French audience.
