E.Y. 'Yip' Harburg (born Isidore Hochberg) was the lyricist of 'Over the Rainbow' and 'Brother, Can You Spare a Dime?'. He was born on New York's Lower East Side to Yiddish-speaking Orthodox Jews, Lewis and Mary Hochberg, who had emigrated from Russia. He grew up immersed in Yiddish theater and vaudeville.
