Ira Gershwin is recognized among Jewish contributors to Arts & Literature — Lyricist - Collaborated with George Gershwin
Gershwin was one of the foremost American lyricists, writing the words to many of the songs composed by his brother George Gershwin, from 'Embraceable You' to 'They Can't Take That Away from Me.' In 1932 he became the first lyricist awarded the Pulitzer Prize for Drama, for Of Thee I Sing. The son of Russian-Jewish immigrants in New York, his Jewish background is well documented.
