David Zuckerman is recognized among Jewish contributors to Technology & Engineering — Expert in randomness extractors and derandomization; Gödel Prize (2025)
Zuckerman is a theoretical computer scientist known for randomness extractors — algorithms that distil near-perfect random bits from weak, biased sources — and for derandomization. With his student Eshan Chattopadhyay he gave the first explicit two-source extractor, a long-open problem, for which they won the 2025 Gödel Prize. He has taught at the University of Texas at Austin since 1994. No Jewish ancestry is detailed in his published biographies, though he is listed in specialist indexes of Jewish scientists.
