David Brin

Glen David Brin was born on 6 October 1950 in Glendale, California, to Jewish parents, Selma and Herb Brin, a family of Polish Jewish descent from the area around Konin. Trained as an astrophysicist and later a NASA consultant, he wrote the Uplift novels, in which humanity raises other species to intelligence: Startide Rising won the Nebula Award in 1983 and the Hugo in 1984, and The Uplift War won the Hugo in 1988. His novel The Postman was filmed in 1997. He also writes on transparency and privacy, and received the American Library Association's Oboler Award for intellectual freedom.
