Arthur Pap was a Swiss-born American philosopher of science and analytic philosopher known for work on the a priori, dispositions and the analytic–synthetic distinction, which influenced later philosophy of science. Born into a Jewish family in Zurich, he fled with his family to the United States in 1941 and completed his doctorate under Ernest Nagel at Columbia. His books, including 'Elements of Analytic Philosophy,' shaped mid-century analytic thought before his early death.
