Alfred Lande was a German-American physicist who in 1921 introduced the Lande g-factor, the numerical factor that explains the splitting of atomic spectral lines in a magnetic field (the anomalous Zeeman effect), a key early result of quantum theory. Of Jewish descent, he emigrated from Nazi Germany in 1931 and spent the rest of his career at Ohio State University. He was Jewish.
