Alexander Patashinski is recognized among Jewish contributors to Science & Medicine — Physicist (statistical physics, phase transitions)
Patashinski is a Soviet-Russian-American theoretical physicist who, with Valery Pokrovsky, developed in 1963–1966 an early fluctuation (scaling) theory of second-order phase transitions — a precursor of the renormalization-group approach explicitly credited when Kenneth Wilson won the 1982 Nobel Prize. Of Jewish background, he later joined Northwestern University in the United States. His work is foundational to the modern theory of critical phenomena.
