Domb was a theoretical physicist celebrated for his work on the statistical mechanics of phase transitions and critical phenomena, and for the multi-volume series he edited on the subject. From an Orthodox Jewish family in London, he was in 1977 the first practising Orthodox Jew elected a Fellow of the Royal Society, and later taught at Bar-Ilan University in Israel. He was also a noted writer on the relationship between Judaism and science.
