Albert Salamon

Albert Salomon was a German-Jewish surgeon at the University of Berlin whose 1913 study of some 3,000 mastectomy specimens, comparing X-ray images with removed tissue and identifying microcalcifications, is regarded as the origin of mammography. He was Jewish; barred from teaching in 1933 and briefly interned at Sachsenhausen after Kristallnacht, he fled to Amsterdam, survived deportation to Westerbork, and lived to 1976.
