Adolf Brodsky was a Russian-Jewish violinist who gave the 1881 premiere of Tchaikovsky's Violin Concerto in Vienna after other soloists had declined it, and the composer dedicated the work to him. He led a distinguished international career and settled in England, where he became principal of the Royal Manchester College of Music and led the Brodsky Quartet. He was a major figure in late-Romantic violin playing and teaching.
