Jakob Grün was an Austrian violinist of Hungarian origin who served as concertmaster of the Vienna Court Opera Orchestra from 1868 to 1897 and taught at the Vienna Conservatory, where his pupils included Carl Flesch and Franz Kneisel; some twenty became Vienna Philharmonic members. He was Jewish, and when he was denied a pensioned post in 1864 because of his religion, Joseph Joachim resigned in solidarity. He was a foundational teacher of the Viennese violin school.
