Joseph Szigeti was a Hungarian-American violinist regarded as one of the great intellectual and interpretive artists of the 20th-century violin, celebrated for his cerebral musicianship and his championing of contemporary composers such as Bartók, Bloch and Prokofiev. He built an international career and later settled in the United States and Switzerland. He was Jewish.
