How & why

Abraham Arden Brill, a Jewish immigrant from Galicia who arrived in the United States as a teenager, became the first psychoanalyst to practise in America and the leading English translator of Sigmund Freud. His translations of works such as The Interpretation of Dreams introduced psychoanalysis to the English-speaking world. He founded the New York Psychoanalytic Society and taught at Columbia and NYU.
