Zehava Ben, born Zehava Benisti in the Shikun Dalet neighbourhood of Beersheba in 1968 to a Moroccan Jewish family, has an identical twin sister, Etti Levy, who is also a musician. She became known across Israel in 1989 with 'Tipat Mazal', a hit among Mizrahi Jews and Arab citizens of Israel alike, and is one of the most popular women in Mizrahi music. She also records in Arabic, including versions of Umm Kulthum, and released two albums titled 'Sings Arabic'; her records were banned in some Arab states under the Arab League boycott, yet she found an audience across the Arab world.
