Ladejinsky was an American agricultural economist who became the leading architect of land-reform programs in post-war Asia, most famously the successful land redistribution in occupied Japan, and later in Taiwan, South Vietnam and India. His reforms are widely credited with strengthening rural economies and undercutting rural support for communism. Born into a Jewish family in the Russian Empire, he fled the Bolshevik Revolution and emigrated to the United States.
