How & why
Adolph Lowe (Adolf Löwe) was a German-born economist and sociologist known for his work on economic growth, structural change and 'instrumental' economics, which sought to link economic analysis to social goals. He was associated with the Kiel school and later the New School for Social Research in New York. Lowe was Jewish and fled Nazi Germany, teaching in Britain and the United States.
