Abram Bergson was an American economist, the leading Western authority on the Soviet economy, who introduced the 'social welfare function' (the Bergson–Samuelson welfare function) into welfare economics and developed methods for measuring Soviet national income. He long directed Harvard's Russian Research Center. He was Jewish.
