William Kraft was an American composer, conductor and virtuoso percussionist who served as principal timpanist and later composer-in-residence of the Los Angeles Philharmonic. His concertos and chamber works, especially for percussion, are widely performed and twice earned him Pulitzer Prize finalist recognition. He was born into a Jewish family in Chicago.
