Wallis Annenberg was born in Philadelphia in 1939 into a Jewish family, the daughter of the publisher and ambassador Walter Annenberg. She has chaired the Annenberg Foundation since 2009 and directed more than a billion dollars of its giving into Los Angeles: the Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts, the Annenberg Community Beach House, PetSpace, and the Wallis Annenberg Wildlife Crossing over the 101 freeway — the largest wildlife bridge in the world, built so that mountain lions cut off by ten lanes of traffic can breed again.
