Vladislav Illich-Svitych is recognized among Jewish contributors to Philosophy & Social Sciences — Russian linguist and founder of comparative Nostratic linguistics.
Illich-Svitych was a Soviet linguist who revived and rigorously grounded the Nostratic hypothesis, arguing that Indo-European, Uralic, Altaic, Kartvelian, Dravidian and Afroasiatic descend from a single ancestral macrofamily, and began compiling the first comparative Nostratic dictionary. He founded the Moscow school of comparative linguistics before dying in a car accident at age 31. He was of Polish Jewish descent.
