Vladimir Rokhlin Jr.

Vladimir Rokhlin Jr. is a Russian-American mathematician and professor of computer science and mathematics at Yale who, with Leslie Greengard, co-invented the fast multipole method in 1985 — an algorithm that dramatically speeds up large-scale physical simulations and is counted among the top ten algorithms of the 20th century. Elected to the National Academies of Sciences and of Engineering, he is the son of the Soviet mathematician Vladimir Abramovich Rokhlin, of Jewish descent.
