Stanley Osher is recognized among Jewish contributors to Science & Medicine — Numerical analysis; the level set method
Osher, an American mathematician from a Jewish family, is a leader in numerical analysis and applied mathematics whose methods are used across science and engineering. With James Sethian he introduced the level set method, a powerful technique for tracking evolving surfaces and interfaces now central to image processing, computer graphics, fluid simulation, and medical imaging. He also co-developed influential total-variation methods for image denoising.
