Vinton Cerf is recognized among Jewish contributors to Technology & Engineering — Co-designed the TCP/IP protocols underpinning the Internet.
In the 1970s Cerf worked with Robert Kahn to design TCP/IP, the packet-switching protocols that let separate networks interconnect into a single Internet, for which he is called a 'father of the Internet.' He earned his PhD at UCLA, championed Internet standards for decades, and shared the 2004 Turing Award. His father was of German and French Jewish descent, giving him documented partial Jewish ancestry on the paternal side, while his mother was of Irish and French-Canadian origin.
