Biography

Robert Kahn is recognized among Jewish contributors to Technology & Engineering — Co-designed the TCP/IP protocols of the Internet.

How & why

Kahn, an American Jew from Brooklyn, worked at DARPA where, with Vinton Cerf, he designed the TCP/IP protocol suite that lets separate computer networks interconnect — the technical foundation of the Internet. He championed the 'open architecture' idea that no network need change internally to join the whole. He shared the 2004 Turing Award for this work. He is Jewish.
