Robert Elliot Kahn is an American electrical engineer, born to a Jewish family in Brooklyn, New York. With Vint Cerf he co-invented the TCP/IP protocols, the fundamental communication standards that make the Internet work. For this foundational contribution he received the Turing Award and the Presidential Medal of Freedom, and he is widely regarded as one of the fathers of the Internet.
