Stuart Rice

Rice, from a Jewish family, spent his career at the University of Chicago, where he shaped the field of physical chemistry. He developed rigorous statistical-mechanical theories of the structure and dynamics of liquids and later pioneered laser control of chemical reactions, training generations of researchers. He received the National Medal of Science in 1999.
