How & why
Stephen Heller was a Hungarian pianist and Romantic composer who settled in Paris and became known for hundreds of expressive piano works, including etudes that remain staples of piano teaching. A friend of Chopin, Berlioz and Liszt, he shaped the poetic character piece of the 19th century. He was born into a Jewish family in Pest.
