Greenblatt is an American literary scholar at Harvard, a founder of New Historicism and a leading authority on Shakespeare, whose book The Swerve: How the World Became Modern won the 2012 Pulitzer Prize for General Non-Fiction (and the National Book Award). He also served as general editor of The Norton Shakespeare. He was born into a Jewish family of Lithuanian origin in the Boston area.
