Schorske was an American cultural historian at Princeton whose Fin-de-Siècle Vienna: Politics and Culture won the 1981 Pulitzer Prize for General Nonfiction and reshaped intellectual history by linking politics, art, psychoanalysis and architecture in one interpretive fabric. He was a MacArthur Fellow. His mother was Jewish.
