Biography

Stanley L. Miller is recognized among Jewish contributors to Science & Medicine — Chemist whose Miller-Urey experiment showed that amino acids can form under early-Earth conditions.

How & why

Stanley L. Miller was an American chemist whose 1952 Miller–Urey experiment, conducted with Harold Urey, showed that amino acids can form from simple inorganic molecules under conditions simulating the early Earth, founding the field of prebiotic chemistry. He was Jewish, and his experiment became one of the most iconic demonstrations in the study of the origin of life. He continued research on chemical evolution throughout his career.
