Stanley Deser was an American theoretical physicist who co-developed the ADM formulation of general relativity, which underpins the modern definition of gravitational energy, and who co-discovered supergravity with Bruno Zumino in 1976. Born to a Jewish family in Rovno, he studied under Nobel laureate Julian Schwinger and taught for decades at Brandeis. His work is central to modern gravitational physics.
