Simcha Blass was a Polish-born Israeli engineer and inventor who developed the concept of modern drip irrigation after noticing a tree thriving beside a leaking pipe. His invention, commercialized from 1959 through the founding of the Netafim company on Kibbutz Hatzerim, transformed agriculture in arid regions worldwide by delivering water directly and efficiently to plant roots. Blass was a Jewish engineer who emigrated to Mandatory Palestine and became a pioneer of Israeli water technology.
