Rudolph Schoenheimer

Rudolph Schoenheimer was a biochemist who pioneered the use of isotope labeling (isotopic tracers) to demonstrate the 'dynamic state' of body constituents, showing that the body's molecules are continuously synthesized and broken down. He was Jewish, born in Berlin, and fled Nazi Germany for the United States, working at Columbia University. His methods transformed the study of metabolism.
