Ronald Finn is recognized among Jewish contributors to Science & Medicine — Physician whose work helped prevent Rhesus (Rh) hemolytic disease of the newborn
Finn, a physician at the University of Liverpool, was the first to propose that giving mothers an anti-Rh (D) antibody could prevent Rhesus haemolytic disease of the newborn, a leading cause of infant death and disability. With Cyril Clarke and colleagues he proved the idea, leading to the anti-D injection now given routinely worldwide; the group shared the 1980 Lasker Award. He was born into a Liverpool Jewish family.
