Robert Marshak was an American physicist who, with George Sudarshan, proposed the V−A (vector minus axial-vector) theory of the weak interaction, a foundation of the modern electroweak theory. Born to Jewish immigrant parents in the Bronx, he chaired physics at Rochester, founded the influential 'Rochester Conferences' on particle physics, and later served as president of City College of New York. He also proposed the concept later named the two-meson (pion–muon) resolution.
