Robert Coles is recognized among Jewish contributors to Arts & Literature — Pulitzer Prize for Non-Fiction
Coles was a child psychiatrist and Harvard professor whose five-volume Children of Crisis documented the inner lives of children facing racism, poverty and social upheaval, winning two Pulitzer Prizes in 1973 in the general non-fiction category. He wrote more than eighty books on moral and spiritual life. His father was an English immigrant from Leeds of both Jewish and Catholic roots, and his mother came from an Episcopalian family — his Jewish ancestry is partial and paternal.
