How & why

Richard Howard was an American poet, critic and translator who won the 1970 Pulitzer Prize for Poetry for Untitled Subjects, dramatic monologues in the voices of Victorian figures, and was among the foremost translators of French literature, notably Baudelaire. He was born to Jewish birth parents and adopted as an infant by a Jewish couple in Cleveland.
